Alice found the March Hare and Hatter having tea under a tree. The Dormouse slept between them as a cushion. They shouted no room when Alice came near. Alice sat anyway and felt unwelcome. The Hatter asked why a raven is like a writing desk. Alice tried to guess, but no one knew the answer. The Hatter argued that saying and meaning are not the same. Alice grew tired of their silly word games. The Hatter showed his watch and said it was two days wrong. He blamed butter from the March Hare for breaking the works. The March Hare said it was the best butter. Alice saw the watch told the day, not the hour. The Hatter said Time was angry with him after a bad song. The Queen had shouted to cut off his head. Now Time would not move from six o'clock. That made tea time last forever. The Dormouse told a story about three sisters in a well. Alice asked questions and the Hatter interrupted with rude remarks. Alice could not bear their rudeness and walked away. The others did not notice her leaving. Alice found a door in a tree and entered the long hall. She took the little golden key first and unlocked the garden door. She nibbled the mushroom until she was small enough. Then she reached the beautiful garden with flowers and fountains.
